The following is some general information regarding our Courses and Workshops:

Applied Counselling Certificate Program (ACCP)
Specialization in Addictions Studies

Applied Counselling students who choose this area of specialization are required to complete 210 hours of required courses in the Applied Counselling Certificate Program (ACCP) at University of Manitoba AND 100 hours of Addictions Studies courses from the list below:

The following are required courses:

Fundamentals of Addictions (pre-requisite for all others) 20 hours
Pharmacology 10 hours
Relapse Management 10 hours


The following are elective courses of which you must select SIXTY HOURS:

Aboriginal People and Addictions: What are the Issues? 10 hours
Aging and Addictions 10 hours
Families and Addictions 10 hours
Family Violence and Addictions 10 hours
Intervention Strategies: A Multi-level Approach 10 hours
Understanding Problem Gambling 10 hours
Women and Addictions 10 hours
Youth and Drugs 10 hours


Tuition:

20 hour courses $210.00 + $35.00 Transfer Fee
10 hour courses $175.00 + $35.00 Transfer Fee


Please pay course fees to the AFM; pay the Transfer Fee ($35.00) to the University of Manitoba.

Students seeking credit in the Applied Counselling Certificate Program (ACCP) must submit their original certificate and grade letter for the AFM course(s) they have completed along with a transfer fee for each course being transferred into the ACCP. Original certificates and grade letters will be returned to the student. Payment by VISA and MasterCard is accepted at the University of Manitoba.

Course Registration FAQ's

How do I register?
You may register by mail, fax, or in person by contacting the appropriate office below. You may also register online but payment must be mailed or dropped off at the AFM office.

How do I pay?
You may pay by cheque, cash, money order or employer invoice. Payment can also be accepted by Visa, Mastercard and Interac at the Winnipeg office only. The Payment must be received prior to course start date. AFM reserves the right to charge an administration fee of $25.00 on all NSF cheques and on all refunds.

Why am I asked for personal information?
Registration forms contain personal information. This information that AFM collects is used for the purposes of course mailing and course statistics. This information is protected by the provisions of the PHIA (Personal Health Information Act) and FIPPA (The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act). If you have any questions, please contact the AFM office nearest you. (See AFM offices below)

How will I know if I am confirmed?
Courses will be confirmed by mail or e-mail upon receipt of the completed registration form, payment and if space is available. Note: AFM reserves the right to cancel courses. Course dates and course fees are subject to change without notice.

What are the hours?
Unless otherwise noted, daytime courses are held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Evening courses are held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Are there any prerequisites?
It is recommended that you attend the Fundamentals of Addictions course prior to registering for any other AFM courses. For students registered in the Applied Counselling Certificate Program, as well as some other courses, this is a requirement.
