Research & Quality Monitoring

The Research and Quality Monitoring department at the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba aims to provide expertise, increase awareness, disseminate knowledge, assess program effectiveness, and stay apprised of current developments in the area of addictions research. The department has formed partnerships with local and national networks in order to facilitate evidence-based decision-making.

The mission statement of the Research unit is:

To address the harm associated with addictions through research by establishing a multidisciplinary research and training program, to determine the causes and consequences of addiction, and to disseminate that knowledge in various academic, professional and community settings.

• Evaluating AFM programs.
• Conducting scientific research using data from provincial and national sources.
• Collecting addictions-related prevalence data.
• Reviewing current literature and best practice information in the field of addictions.
• Informing AFM staff and the general population about addictions-related research.
• Developing accountability models that link program activities with expected outcomes.
• Establishing and maintaining partnerships with addictions and other agencies.
• Maintaining a large data base of information on AFM clients.
