ABORIGINAL PEOPLE AND ADDICTIONS: WHAT ARE THE ISSUES?

The purpose of this course is to enhance the competency of helpers working with Aboriginal populations in the area of prevention and treatment of substance using and gambling behaviours for Aboriginal people and their communities.

Audience:

This course is eligible for U of M ACCP specialization in Addiction Studies and appropriate for post-secondary students and helping professionals.

Description:

This course includes information on:

  • The history and relationship among Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people
  • Definitions of Aboriginal people
  • Relevance of these issues to working with clients today

Prerequisite:

Fundamentals of Addictions (for U of M ACCP students)
