Crisis Services & Help Lines

Are you having a crisis? Is a Crisis service right for you?

A crisis is a situation in which an individual’s actions, behaviours or feelings can lead them to feel they are unable to care for themselves, function in a healthy way at home or in the community or lead them to harming themselves or others.

Some examples of this can include:

  • Being unable to cope and perform daily tasks
  • Saying, writing, feeling you or someone you care about wants to kill themselves
  • Withdrawing from regular activities, relationships
  • Reckless/impulsive behaviour
  • Dramatic shifts in mood, sleeping, eating

Should I go to the Crisis Response Centre, call a Help Line, call the Mobile Crisis Service or call 911?

If you are experiencing a major medical emergency or facing a threat of violence, please call 911. If you need to urgently talk about your mental health because you are feeling unable to cope or are concerned for your well-being you, can call a crisis line to get guidance, visit the Crisis Response Centre in Winnipeg, or a facility in your health region.

Reasons for calling a crisis line might include having suicidal thoughts, experiencing mental health symptoms that are out of the ordinary, seeking information about mental health or addictions resources, or reaching out for a supportive conversation. People may call a crisis line seeking help for themselves or a loved one. The Mobile Crisis phone line is one of several telephone supports available. It operates out of the Crisis Response Centre and is part of Shared Health. Other help lines are listed below.

What can I expect when I call Mobile Crisis Services?

A professional mental health clinician will answer your call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will ask you questions about your safety and your crisis to determine the urgency and severity of the situation. They may also ask you questions about your mental health history and review your past mental health records. They will provide support over the phone, recommend options for next steps, and create a safety plan with you. Options may include attending the Crisis Response Centre, a virtual mental health assessment, linking you or providing information about peer support or other services or resources, arranging a community visit, or recommending you use emergency services. We will also want to know who is involved in your care (professional and family/friends) so we can work with them to help you. Call the Mobile Crisis Service at 204-940-1781.
