Q: How do I know if I need to attend AFM’s Impaired Driver Program? >

You need to attend AFM’s Impaired Driver Program if you want to get your licence back after an impaired driving charge. If you have been charged with impaired driving or have received two or more tiered licence suspension within a ten (10) year period you will need to attend AFM’s Impaired Driver Program. If you are not sure whether you need to access AFM’s Impaired Driver Program, please contact MPI’s Driver Fitness Program at 204.985.7694 (toll-free 1.866.323.0546).

Q: After I receive notice that I need to attend AFM’s Impaired Driver Program how long should I wait before I call? >

It is best to contact AFM’s Impaired Driver Program as soon as possible. Waiting to book an assessment appointment can delay the process. You will need to complete programming as part of AFM’s Impaired Driver Program. The length of this programming can vary based on your needs and your counsellor will discuss this with you during your assessment appointment. If you have a court date you do not need to wait until your court date before you call us.

Q: How much does the Impaired Driver Program cost? >

There is a $625 fee for AFM’s Impaired Driver Program.

Q: Do I have to pay the full fee upfront to access the AFM Impaired Driver Program? >

Yes, the full payment needs to be received prior to starting the program.

Q: If my criminal charges are dismissed do I still have to pay the fee for AFM’s Impaired Driver Program? >

The $625 fee covers the cost of AFM’s Impaired Driver Program. You will be responsible for paying this fee and completing the program regardless of the outcome of any criminal charges.

Q: How long will it take to complete AFM’s Impaired Driver Program assessment? >

While people’s circumstances can be different, most assessments are completed in about two to three hours. Programming is also required as part of AFM’s Impaired Driver Program. The length of this programming can vary based on your needs and your counsellor will discuss this with you during your assessment appointment.

Q: Is AFM’s Impaired Driver Program responsible for giving me back my driver’s licence? >

People’s circumstances related to their impaired driving charge can be very different. Some people may have steps to complete before or after AFM’s Impaired Driver Program. MPI is responsible for determining if all of these steps have been completed.
